ABSTRACT

The magnitude of these additional environmental pressures can be placed in perspective through the application of a recreation usage projection model developed by the Southwest Project study team. The model is specifically designed to permit projection of the effect on visitation at existing recreation sites of population migration into the Southwest. It is an adaptation of the well known Clawson-Hotelling methodology which assumes that travel cost acts as a proxy to the individual for the opportunity cost (price) of the recreational experience.1
