ABSTRACT
This volume was written with a number of diverse audiences in mind. Most broadly, these audiences fall into two categories: the practitioner and academic communities.1
At the risk of overgeneralizing, it seems fair to say that the writing styles of these two communities differ dramatically. Research reports written for practitioners tend to be relatively terse. Discussions of conceptual foundations and methodology generally are brief, with much detail relegated to technical appendices. The major emphasis in reports written for practitioner audiences tends to be on the findings and their implications.
