ABSTRACT

Fear is the other half of the fight/flight response. It shares much of the brain chemicals and neurostructure of anger. Fear (along with disgust) is also on one polarity of the approach/avoidance structure (Rozin, Lowery, Imada, & Haidt, 1999). Fear can mean “flee,” “run,” “get out of here.” But it can also mean “avoid,” “go the other way,” “hide,” or “be still and maybe they won’t notice.”
