ABSTRACT

Somehow, we have entered the 21st century with research and practice often operating in separate spheres, at times competing rather than complementing one another. We need to refocus our vision to be able to see psychotherapy as a coherent whole, to draw from each of its constituent parts, and transcend the older conceptualization of practice and science as two disparate activities conducted by different groups aimed toward different ends. The science and practice subsystems within psychotherapy are each best served when they provide feedback to, inform, and influence each other.
