ABSTRACT

Throughout this book, you have been exposed to a great number of ideas about how to approach the teaching of science in elementary school. However, your work is far from over. Teaching is a lifelong (at least career-long) process of continual learning. Every year, advances in our understandings of the teaching and learning processes grow. You need to keep up-to-date with these developments. In addition, you need to continue to reflect upon your own teaching and the specific circumstances of the context in which you teach. At the same time, you need to continue to learn more about science and to develop further understandings of science concepts. This chapter will discuss some of the ways you can continue to grow professionally and work toward full participation in the professional community of teachers.
