ABSTRACT

For a moment, return to the fall of 1984 and imagine a family in “Hometown, U.S.A.” sitting together watching television when, during a station break, an advertisement appears. This ad features several faceless businessmen walking down the steps of an official building on their way to their chauffeured limousines. As this scene unfolds, an announcer relates how these nameless people have victimized millions of Americans through their domination of the nation's financial markets. The commercial closes with a plea for an end to this victimization through the election of Walter Mondale as President of the United States.
