ABSTRACT

In this final chapter I explore the participants’ second-round contributions in which they discussed their struggles to move away from what I call an ‘identity based on gender melancholia’ towards an ‘identity based on gender mourning’. These struggles take women into conversation with their own aggressive energies and fantasies but in order to create a space in which to discuss both the struggles and what they reveal, I need to draw together certain elements from previous chapters, and introduce some new ones.
