ABSTRACT
In 1989, we suggested a combined research methodology for studying second-language acquisition (SLA) in real-life and important contexts (Selinker & Douglas, 1989). The combined research methodology we suggested there integrated features from three fields: grounded ethnography, subject-specialist informant (SSI) procedures in language for specific purposes (LSP), and rhetorical/grammatical (R/G) strategies in discourse analysis.
