ABSTRACT

Linda was the elder of two girls; her sister Sian was two and a half years younger. Her parents were in their early thirties when they started their family and both had successful careers, her mother as a feature writer for a national newspaper and her father a middle-grade civil servant. The family lived in the suburb of a large city and was reasonably prosperous. Her mother’s parents lived relatively near; her father’s parents lived about 100 miles away.
