ABSTRACT

If a client spends one hour per week in therapy, he needs to be encouraged to devote some of the remaining 167 hours to carrying out homework tasks before his next appointment. Homework provides opportunities for clients to practise in everyday life the CT skills they have learned in the therapist’s office. As Persons observes:

No matter how many insights and changes occur during the session, patients will not solve the problems on their problem list or make significant changes in their underlying irrational beliefs unless they make behavioral and cognitive changes outside the session.
