ABSTRACT

Each system presented in Section III can be located within the framework of Hamburger's interaction types, as is noted in each chapter. This framework also applies to the two systems from Section II: Users interact with the text-based games by singlemedium dialogue, with the tutor largely in the role of servant (i.e., carrying out commands) or oracle (i.e., answering questions). Murray goes on to analyze roles of microworld characters into tutoring functions, such as coach and informant, which apply across ICALL systems.
