ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is upon the initiatives organizations take to manage better the damaging effects of stress in the workplace. We will first examine a model of the stress process and the implications of employee stress for employers. Some of the main changes that have occurred in the workplace that have been linked with poor health in the past few decades will be reviewed before examining the strategies and tactics organizations have adopted to develop more healthy work environments. Finally, the value of such strategies will be assessed.
