ABSTRACT
In Part I of this book, I outlined the two models of opposites implicit in the works of Nietzsche and Jung. In this part, the two models will be compared and contrasted. In this chapter, I shall determine the differences between the two models by examining the processes through which the opposites are united. I shall also try to account for these differences by reference to the philosophical influences on the two models. Thus, the theories of opposites proposed by Plato, Kant, Schopenhauer, Heraclitus and Aristotle will be juxtaposed with Nietzsche’s and Jung’s. In Chapter 8, I shall focus on the similarities between the two models’ conception of the telos of the process – that is, their similar conceptions of the union of opposites itself.
