ABSTRACT

There is one basic principle to remember when working with patients to develop strategies to identify, minimise and resolve relapse-collaboration. The patient and therapist are joined by a common objective, which is for the patient to achieve and maintain an optimum level of functioning. There may be a subtle difference in how each party is approaching this objective, since the patient who has recovery in view may not want to address relapse until improvement is likely and the patient who has recovered may doubt the relevance of it.
