ABSTRACT

In this chapter we reflect on the history of the Tidal Model, which is less than ten years old: a mere footnote in the history of psychiatry; a blip in the history of human consciousness. We hope that in framing the Tidal Model we have embraced some of the key human values that first inspired those who wanted to be part of the genesis of a compassionate form of help for those in mental distress. We hope also that we have learned something, perhaps of a different order of value, from the people with whom we have worked; the people who have used, or been required to use, psychiatric and mental health services.
