ABSTRACT

Telecommunications providers have traditionally focused on voice-based (i.e., telephone) technologies. As the U.S., western European, and Japanese telephone markets reach a point of saturation with limited growth prospects for additional voice-based services, there is rising interest in exploring the potential for screen-based information technologies. These include videotex information services such as Prodigy, networks such as Internet, video conferencing, videophone, as well as numerous other interactive applications.
