ABSTRACT

How are emotional events understood and remembered? Are emotional situations different from other situations that unfold in everyday interaction? Are young children between 2½ to 5 years-of-age able to understand, remember, and act upon events that affect them emotionally? Do they understand and evaluate how emotional events affect other people? Can they talk about their feelings, beliefs, preferences, goals, and plans? Are they aware that other people have the same types of knowledge and feeling states as they do, and if so, at what age and in what situations do they express their awareness and understanding of this knowledge?
