ABSTRACT

The Internet has become the technology blitzkrieg of the new millennium. Electronic communications are dramatically changing the workplace, as e-mail, Intranets, the Internet, and the World Wide Web are fast joining the fax machine and voice mail as indispensable tools for doing business. In fact, about 50% of all Internet users use accounts supplied by their employers. The explosion of the Internet into the workplace has put temptation squarely in the face of millions of employees. With just a few keystrokes, they may all too easily travel to areas that are implicitly and even explicitly forbidden and/or at odds with their companies' mores and mission. This phenomenon raises a host of new legal and practical issues for any employer.
