ABSTRACT

We live in a world driven by the need for instant gratification, immediate success, and the quick fix. Precooked, premixed, ready-to-use is a way of life that permeates society, molds attitudes, affects relationships, and, unfortunately, has even shaped and molded some areas of the field of mental health. Quick solutions to life’s problems are insisted on rather than focusing on the process of learning how to live life. Play therapists are encouraged to resist the pressures for quick solutions, to trust what they believe about the process of the child-centered play therapy relationship, and to be diligent in educating managed care providers and agency administrators about the emotional and developmental needs of children and the efficiency of the play therapy process.
