ABSTRACT

Travis, a 42-year-old, white, middle-class male, is married (with one young daughter) and works as a benefits counselor for veterans. He entered psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which varied from twice to three times a week, complaining of debilitating anxiety and depression. His demeanor is that of a solemn, morose, and distraught middle-aged man. On first impression, he seems rather typical of a man going through a midlife crisis.
