ABSTRACT

At this point I wish to describe and discuss the range of phenomena that therapists reported in their bodies while engaged in the work of therapy. This will also help us to explore therapists’ own accounts of how they use their bodies during the therapeutic encounter. The use of such accounts clearly demonstrates the relevance to practitioners of psychotherapist embodiment. Therefore I will be drawing upon the actual accounts of therapists as they describe various aspects of their body experience while engaging in therapy. This shows how body narratives are already present within the profession, yet also highlights the absence of these phenomena within professional training.
