ABSTRACT
Seeing an organisation in terms of a systems perspective is an easy concept for the consultant to both grasp and translate into acceptable language for the client. Carroll (1997) speaks of being part of the system and also external to it, ‘independent yet integrated’. What this implies for the consultant is an ability to offer a service objectively while at the same time understanding the system from which the rupture has emerged.
