ABSTRACT

In this chapter I will attempt to elaborate on specific aspects of the skilled helper model that have been raised in debates and critiques offered by other writers and commentators. I will examine published criticisms of the model, acknowledge those that seem valid and attempt to offer reasoned rebuttals to others, where I feel this is appropriate. The chapter will also address more anecdotal but pervasive criticisms of the model that have been made by students, trainers and practitioners.
