ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the skilled helper model as it applies to aspects of research and supervision. I will engage with the critical debate about the perceived lack of research activity relating to the model before exploring how the skilled helper framework can be adapted to the supervision of counsellors and those using counselling skills. In the section on supervision, as in the previous chapter on training, the emphasis is on practical application and I have again included a number of training exercises developed, in this case, from my experience of training supervisors.
