Over-exerciseislesscommonandlessinjuriousinpatientswithbulimiaorbingeeatingdisorder(Kaplan,1993,pp.8-9).Whenbodyweight declinesbelowaBMIof17,thetendencytoengageinexcessiveexercise decreases.Very-low-weightanorexics(BMIof15orbelow)areknownto exhibitrestless,aimlessphysicalmovements,suchasrocking,toetapping,pacing,orstandinginsteadofsitting(Bouten,VanMarken Lichtenbelt,&Westerterp,1996,p.972).Thesefidgetybehaviorsare thoughttobeuncontrollablebiologicalreactionstostarvationthatmay requirehighlysupervisedsettingstocontrol(Beumontetal.,1997,p.186).
