During the years from 1978 to 1980, a massive multidisciplinary campaign was carried out at Zhoukoudian with the leadership of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP) in Beijing. Furthermore, with the founding of the Zhoukoudian International Paleoanthropological Research Center at Beijing’s Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in 1993, a new era of multidisciplinary work began (Boaz & Ciochon, 2001).
