ABSTRACT

Psychology.—Consciousness regained its position in the center of contemporary cognitive science after having been, if not overshadowed, at least set aside under the influence of behaviorism. Behaviorism had rejected consciousness, both as a methodological tool, once the limitations of the introspective method had become apparent (→INTROSPECTION), and as a key subject in psychology, owing to the difficulty of gaining access to it with the techniques available at the time.
