ABSTRACT
Philosophy.—The term epistemology has two different acceptations, one corresponding to the conventional French usage and the other to the English usage. In the French acceptation, the term is synonymous with the philosophy of science. Epistemology in this sense looks at the logical structure of scientific theories and at the methods used to assess them (→ LOGIC, VALIDATION).
