ABSTRACT

Malnutrition is a disorder that results when an individual is unable to consume or utilize adequate amounts of dietary protein, energy, or both to sustain life processes. It includes a side array of clinical manifestations determined by the severity and duration of protein and energy deficits, an individual’s age, the cause of the deficiency, and the association with other nutrition or infectious diseases. It can result in weight loss and growth retardation and often occurs in conjunction with multiple micronutrient deficiencies.
