ABSTRACT
The presence of an R&D function in an industrial organization is significant in terms of the role that it is playing, will play, or should play in the overall strategy of the organization.
When the R&D function is used appropriately, it will contribute to the survival and growth of the organization. When it is not used appropriately, it will result in a costly diversion of resources that can ultimately affect the competitive position of the organization in the marketplace.
