ABSTRACT

Let me start by saying again that Jennifer and I became friends and colleagues despite our disagreements over the research component. I grew much from our interactions because Jennifer made me reconsider the value of almost everything I tried to do my first year as her teacher. I think Jennifer grew, too, as her reflective comments about her experiences in doing and in writing research show here. I found Jennifer to be an effective, very capable teacher in the classroom, someone who cared deeply about her work, about children, and about mathematics. This combination foretells great things for her and her career. Let's hope that these added layers of considerations brought to bear on her life and work through the research component add to the betterment of her life as teacher and to the achievements of her students.
