ABSTRACT

The year-long internship in teaching program consists of 6 hours of summer course work; 6 hours of Pedagogics and 6 hours of Clinical Practice in the fall; 3 hours of School Leadership in Education and 9 hours of Clinical Practice in the spring. The fall and spring semesters' clinical components require a full-time placement with a mentor teacher in a public school classroom. The fall serves as an introductory and transitional experience to full-time teaching in the spring. The Pedagogics class and the clinical classroom placement represent an opportunity to help interns build the bridges between theory and practice necessary for a successful full-time teaching experience and, by extension, a long professional career in teaching.
