ABSTRACT

We believe that the crux of the supervision process is the relationship between the student and supervisor(s). This philosophy underlies the model for supervision that we offer and are continuing to develop at our center. This model makes explicit not only the typical supervision such as one-to-one meetings with supervisors and research methods courses, but also a number of components that are often only implicit. Another reason for developing our center’s model was that the number of students needing supervision was increasing without a proportionate increase in staffing. These reasons led us to consider alternative ways of maintaining the quality of the supervision relationship for our students and to develop the following supervision model.
