ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the process of evaluating tailored health communication programs. A thoughtful evaluation should determine at least two things: (1) the extent to which the program was effective in meeting its objectives; and, (2) specific ways the program could be modified or fine-tuned for greater performance in the future. To get this information, four basic questions must be answered:

Were guidelines for program development adhered to in creating the tailored health communication program?

Was the program implemented in a way that maximized its chances for success?

Were the tailored materials well-received by the target population?

Was the program effective in meeting its health and behavioral objectives?
