ABSTRACT
The preceding chapters have detailed many aspects of the flora in the context of plant communities and environments of the region. Little mention has been made of the region’s animal life-the fauna. This chapter explores the biogeographic origins of the flora and fauna. Subsequent chapters deal with specific animal groups.
