ABSTRACT

Brill (1998) identified three tasks related to ending a field-based experience :completing unfinished business (tasks); considering internal feelings about departing and how to appropriately discuss them (including formal and informal evaluation); and planning for the future. All of these opportunities and challengesare addressed in this final chapter.Specifically, this chapter outlines ways to create positive closure with clients, colleagues, and supervisors. Another critical component of this chapter focuses on ways to assess what the intern has learned as a result of the experience and ways to prepare for the supervisor's summative evaluation. Finally, this chapter gives guidance about choosing the next internship or preparing to use internship learnings in the search for a first professional position.
