ABSTRACT

The consensus of many scholars is that internships should offer students insights into the world of work, develop professional skills, develop interpersonal and social skills, link theory to practice, and enhance employment prospects for students (Carter, Cooke, Neal, 1996; Harcharik, 1993; Ryan Cassidy, 1996; Toohey, Ryan, Hughes, 1996). They should also socialize students to the professional roles to which they aspire (Fernald et al., 1982 ; Wolf, 1980) and allow them to integrate theory, research, and practice (Joslin Ellis, 1990).
