ABSTRACT

Male reproduction involves complex and sensitive processes. Normal function in the adult depends on normal development and organization of the organs in fetal life; as well as normal postnatal growth and pubertal development. Thus, although failure of reproduction is often not manifest until a man is 30 to 40 years old, the cause of infertility occurred perhaps unnoticed in fetal life or early childhood. Important abnormalities associated with reproductive failure include impairment of spermatogenesis (leading to poor semen quality), undescended testes, and other genital abnormalities. Testicular cancer, which most often occurs in young men, should also be considered as a reproductive disorder.
