ABSTRACT

Society has acknowledged the importance of young children’s learning. This is evident in the increases in enrollments in early childhood education programs. It is also evident in the increases in early childhood teacher education program at the community college and university level. Parallel to this growth has been the increase in knowledge generating activities in the field, part of which might be attributed to the general knowledge explosion in our society and throughout the world. Evidence of this can be seen in the increase of research activities in the field and the growth of research journals and research associations (Spodek & Saracho, 2003).
