ABSTRACT

Chapter 15: Speeches and Intetviews Chapter 15 introduces students to the process of researching and vrriting speeches for organizational representatives. Many students going through a communication or public relations program will have experience in public speaking, and they are encouraged to draw on the associated skills. Speech teachers often tell students to work only from notes, not from a script. Instructors using this text may wish to remind students that giving a speech calls for different skills than writing a speech for someone else to give. The latter is the focus of this book, because it often is the task of the public relations vrriter to draft a speech for an organizational executive. This task is more difficult and demanding for public relations practitioners than presenting their own speeches, and this chapter provides a step-bystep approach to preparing such material for other speakers.
