Realistically, I knew that it was my feelings for Toby that had made her uncomfortable and caused her to pull away, but I also knew that it was being truthful with her that had ruined our friendship. And so, sharing sensitive issues had become more and more diffi cult for me. It was only aft er I found the courage to confi de in other women that I was able to break through my established patterns of isolation.
