ABSTRACT
We can understand, make sense of, and give meaning to the phenomena of our worldincluding love, sex, and romance-through art and literature, philosophy and religion, natural science, and/or social science. In this chapter, we’ll explore some of the universal themes that have attempted to explain human behavior as well as to control it. These themes go back centuries, to the earliest human times for which we have a narrative record (and even before).
