ABSTRACT

AS WE HAVE SEEN in previous chapters, there is some variation, between different publishing companies, in the precise inter-departmental allocation of responsibilities. These varying routines are at their most disparate in the arrangements for control of production and the concept of what ‘production’ embraces, so it is necessary to consider explanations in the following text as a template which can be adapted to alternative structures rather than a universal system of control practised throughout the industry.
