ABSTRACT

Since 1994, Richard Monette has served as the artistic director of the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada, where he has also played more than forty roles. The festival is one of the few resident repertory companies in North America, currently employing more than 140 actors, some of whom have been with the company for decades. Monette has performed throughout Canada, Britain, and the United States, including in plays on Broadway and in the West End. He has more than thirty film and television credits, including as director of two film adaptations of Shakespeare comedies. This interview was conducted in the summer of 2004.
