ABSTRACT

In a performance, actors decide their character has to blow its nose, maybe their wish to show that they are emotional or they want to do some gear-changing business. The problem is that one's are in good health, and there simply is no mucus in their nose to expel with the appropriately satisfying sound, or at least not enough for many takes in front of the camera or the demands of eight performances a week. The solution is simple: put a handkerchief to their nose and, using their lips, make a nose-blowing sound. To help the illusion, people's can sort of glance at their handkerchief after it has received its load and slightly squeeze it as people's put it away. Mission accomplished, those watching will think that you have blown your nose, and the truth of the moment has been maintained.
