Building a good working relationship with them is not only wise but also essential. In this day and age, when directors no longer know in great detail about the increasing pool of potential actors, the casting director has become the key person. They are now the main conduit between the actor and the job, so you will need to cultivate them and get them to know your work, for it is going to be a lifelong relationship. There are contact books with casting directors listed in them, but to find the hot ones, watch the credits at the end of a current television drama or film.
