ABSTRACT

A drama school or conservatory is a very valuable time spent in the company of others who also want to be actors, so make good friends and keep them, for these are the people who will help one's throughout their career. Who knows, some of them might become writers, producers, or directors. The dangers of such training are that one's audiences for the most part are friends and colleagues, and the notes and responses you get can be very deceiving. It might seem strange that those months or years spent in a conservatory training should not count for more, but working actors, while acknowledging the value of the classes they took and the opportunity of giving a variety of performances, often feel that their real training came out of their work in the professional theatre, performing to an audience of strangers.
