ABSTRACT

Writers spend hours agonizing over the use of a particular word or a particular form of punctuation. Respect their craft, and start off by rigorously trying to create actor's character from the words on the page. Remember, they are the only really true thing actor's know about their part, and excessive acting outside the lines they are given can often confuse the message of the script. Text is recommended that actors study their lines very thoroughly, it helps if they can isolate their dialogue from the other characters. The master craftsman of putting clues into the language and helping the actor with characterization by the choice of words was Mr. Shakespeare himself. Even though the examples actors are using are from his plays, the techniques can just as easily be applied to modern scripts, especially those techniques that deal with the differences between complicated and simple language, and all the wordplay.
