ABSTRACT

There cannot be an actor in the world who has never been late on a single occasion, but in most cases it is usually a one-off, under exceptional circumstances. When filming, we are at mercy of many outside factors, not the least being the weather. Suppose the director is doing a two-handed scene outdoors and has just completed an over-the-shoulder shot of one person, with sunshine-dappled scenery behind. On a shoot, of course, punctuality is even more important. As the camera is moved to do the opposite shot, the team notices that the sun is about to go behind a big black cloud that will last until the end of the day. Everyone rushes to their places, but halfway through the scene the sun goes in, and now the director has the problem that for one shot the person will have sunshine behind her head as she speaks and for the other shot there will be sun followed by shade.
