The other actor who played Plyushkin was Petker, who came to the Moscow Art Theatre, like me, from the Moscow Theatre of Comedy (formerly the Korsh). This young artist was a gifted character actor, and when it came to fin ding an understudy for Leonidov, he was chosen. Stanislavski came to know this new actor by working with him.
